For many rare disease patients, travelling is often just a dream. Together with volunteers, medical personnel and families of patients,in 2003, we conducted the first ever Firefly Family Summer Camp,which received great responses. Since then, TFRD has been providing various experience activities, one-day trips, and 2 two-day trips every year.
Every year, the patients and family members who are looking forward to the tour, with the help of their colleagues and volunteers, let patients who are sick and inconvenience see the beautiful scenery of Taiwan. Parents can also relax by tourism. In 2018, the Taiwan Foundation of Rare Disorders and friends of rare diseases traveled to Hualien Farglory Ocean Park and Tainan Chimei Museum to relax and enjoy the beautiful memories in summer.
Despite of existing two-day trips for patients, in 2018 we held extra 2 experience activities for more patients. They got a chance to go to the baseball stadium to meet professional baseball players, to rice fields to experience traditional sowing, and to tea garden to taste various delicious tea. With more than 94 volunteer workers' help, 480 patients and their families have participated in the recreational activities.
