The term "rare disease" used to be foreign, even non-existent in Taiwan's society.   It is common for a rare disease patient to experience misunderstanding and repulsion from others.  Therefore, we hope to raise public awareness of rare disorders through education, advocacy, media coverage, and most importantly, earn the respect and concern of the general public. We have paid great attention to the importance of public advocacy.  Through different channels such as rare disorder symposiums, literature and drama, TV advertisement, broadcast program Xin Love World, media coverage, etc.

In 2008, TFRD has cooperated with various organizations, schools, enterprises to promote public advocacy:

Hsin Love World Boradcast Program
Exclusively sponsored by Kuan-Shu Education Foundation. It has started broadcasting in both  ZhengShen and BCC broadcast station. The program also won the 2008 Golden Bell Award--best broadcast hostess and was nominated for the best broadcast program. Rare disease patients meet with celebraties and share their life stories, experience and thoughts about Food, Travelling, Love, Life & Death, Family, Art, etc.

Cooperation with enterprises and organizations
In 2008, more than 104 activities and speeches were held under the support of enterprises and organizations such as universities, rotary clubs, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology EMBA Alumni Club, Nu Skin, ING Insurance, Chinese Professional Baseball League, and so on.

Media Coverage
In 2008, more than 20 media interviews were arranged to strengthen public awareness on rare disease issues.  There were 195 news reports on or relevant to rare diseases.
